Maui, Baby!

Here I am in Maui, AGAIN! This is my second time there, but this time was for a working trip and not so much a vacation trip. Boy, Habitat for Humanity sure got their money's worth out of me! I also seem to have acquired a hawaiian shirt... which I don't know where it came from, nor have I seen it since. I think it really brings out my eyes, don't you? I got here, looked at the sunset, found my cabin, ate a hotdog the size of me, and was ready for the next day of working!

National Capital = lots of war memorials

So we went to the War Museum, and it involved SOOO MUCH WALKING. My lamb ankles were all swollen at the end. This is me commandeering a tank. Y'now, the usual. I look awfully comfortable as well, don't I? I uh, was having trouble reaching the pedals... and then I paid my respects to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Inside Parliament

Alright, so we went to Parliament, as you well know. I passed through the metal detectors undetected, despite the rod in my back and the piece of train track embedded in my foot I managed to make it ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP OF THE TOWER *heave heave gasp puke*, looked around a bit, stifled my vertigo, gave in to my vertigo, and came back down, into the library. What's amazing is that this library is the only thing from the original parliament building. When the buildings were burning in 1916 (or thereabouts), someone closed the doors on their way out. Because they closed the doors, the library was fine. Sturdy doors...

Parliament and commemorative coins

Ok, since they wouldn't put me on a coin at the mint, we had to improvise. here I am on a coin. And here I am on parliament hill! I signed a petition to stop seal bashing or pigeon stuffing or something like that. I figure signing a petition to stop cruelty to animals can't come back to harm me in any possible way.

The Mint

I went to the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. My application was rejected to be put on one of the Vancouver 2010 commemorative olympic coins, and the alarm went off when we walked in, so I had to hide my face in case anyone thought the two instances were related!

Goin' to Otterwa!

Wow, I wish it was really called Otterwa. How great would that be? A whole city of Otters?! Alas, here I am on my way to Ottawa, Canada's ridiculously clean, extraordinarily open and incredibly bilingual capital. The plane ride was interesting. My tray table was locked and my chair was in the upright position. They show you how to use a seatbelt in case you haven't been in a car since 1965 (Thanks, Jerry Seinfeld). Then I did some reading. A little reading of my favourite - the Canadian passport - followed by some stimulating "Psychology Today." We hit some turbulence and I ended up revisiting my lunch, then we hit some more turbulence and all of a sudden I was sitting in it. I need a shower.
